Mission
To help students develop a deep familiarity with culture and a strong commitment to the social good
History
The Department of Chinese Literature was set up at the founding of Fu Jen Catholic University in 1925 and was directed by Yu Jiaxi. When Fu Jen was reestablished in Taiwan in 1961, the Department was once again among the first to begin recruiting students. Under the active leadership of successive directors, the master’s program in Chinese Literature was established in 1967, followed by the PhD program in 1991. These programs were originally independent, but were combined within the Department in 1995. Our research focuses on pre-Qin and Han literature, and we are committed to training instructors and academic researchers for the field. The Department has produced countless leading academics and enjoys a prestigious reputation in the academic world.
